Waimakariri Falls Hut

Waimakariri Falls Hut is situated in the headwaters of the Waimakariri river surrounded by Carrington Peak 2010m, Mt Rolleston 2275m, Mt Lancelot 2112m, Mt Armstrong 2110m. The hut is at approximatley 1300m, directly above the falls. An access bridge spans the gorge just below the hut. The hut has been refurbished in April 2005 and it has six new bunks with foam mattresses, insulated walls, doubleglazed window, a cooking bench, fire extinguisher & blanket, and fixed ventilation. A new toilet will be installed in the near future; solar lighting and Mountain Radio are also planed for future installation.

This hut was first erected in 1960 by the CMC to replace the original Waimak Bivvy. It is now back in our ownership. Please enjoy our comfy little hut and the great climbing around the basin.
