Park Morpeth Hut Consultation Outcome

Latest News on Park Morpeth
This classic hut has now had its refurbishment completed. This was entirely funded from some very generous donations from members! This is heart-warming and a great vote of confidence in the way our backcountry huts are valued by members.

There were some pictures of the refurbishment shown at the 2009 AGM, we will update the Huts page soon.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in, did the web poll or phoned in!

The CMC committee have received an excellant response to the poll regarding the retention or otherwise of Park-Morpeth Hut. In total 65 votes were received with 62 in favour of keeping the hut and 3 against. This is a clear result affirming the committees recommendation to club that this hut be retained.

We received a number of written comments with the votes many of which were positive. We also received a surprising $1000 in donations to be put towards the cost of this work and offers of labour. We are incredibly grateful for this support.

After the poll was issued we received information that DOC had not been granted funding this year to replace the hut.

We need to follow due process and obtain the relevant approvals from relevant authorities prior to completing the hut. We will be applying to the Selwyn District Council for a Certificate of Acceptance for the work which has been carried out and for the work to complete the hut.

Following this approval we will be in a position to get DOC's sign off. While Selwyn District Council is the building athority, DOC is the land owner we have a lease with.
We therefore have some way to go with this process but at least now we have a clear mandate from the club.

The committee will update the membership as more information becomes available.

But beyond this it has been an affirming exercise to keep us in touch with many members we see occasionally or not at all as they are overseas.

Here are a few of the letters we received from members representative of the feelings.
(Here is the original poll request outlining the background.. )
