
CMC Course Descriptions 2010 Note: All courses can be organised for club members outside of the scheduled dates on the calendar as long as there are ~3+ people available for the course.
Basic Alpine
Cost for members is $50 per day (This includes your instruction and free accommodation at Kennedy Lodge, non member rate is $100 pd)
3 or 4 Day course covering:
· Ice Axe and Crampons
Self arresting, fitting etc
· Avalanche Awareness
Basic Awareness, transceivers etc
· Alpine Environment
Go climb something. Put theory into practice whilst on the move.
Develop competence in route finding/alpine features etc
Camping on snow
This course will be based from Kennedy Lodge in Arthurs Pass, and may well involve spending a night out. It is intended for this course to take you up the likes of the Otira Valley in order to practice skills etc.
A reasonable level of fitness and a general tramping knowledge is assumed.

Intermediate Alpine
Cost for members $150 (non member rate is $300)
3 Day course covering:
· Pitched Climbing/Simul Climbing
Self arresting, fitting etc
· Rock Snow and Ice Anchors
· Glacier Travel
Crevasse extraction, roping up etc
· Avalanche
Avalanche theory, transceivers searching etc
This course will be based from Wyn Irwin Lodge in Mount Cook Village, most likely spending two nights out.
A good level of fitness and a basic alpine knowledge is assumed.
