Recent changes to the electrics here include:
- A 230v inverter that runs off the battery can provide low AC power items without running the generator - eg for charging cellphones or torches. This has its outlet socket by the new Heater, and an orange light to show it is on. This consumes battery power even when no load is on its output, so turn off the inverter when not in use. The orange light on the socket will remind you to turn it off.
The main purpose of this is to power the controls and fan of the heater.
- A 24 Amp charger replaces the old 6A one, to much better boost the batteries when the generator is running. It will still take four hours of generator to replace half the battery capacity.
- An extra battery has been added to give 60% more storage. This will better average out load when weather is cloudy and charging is not happening.
- A battery status monitor has been installed which continuously displays battery voltage and discharge (or charge) current.
Detailed instructions will be posted in the hut, but for now consult with the Warden before using any of this.
