We are aware some of the fluorescent bulbs in the huts are either intermittent or not working, and we will replace these with a new design the next time someone goes in to that hut.
Robin has built a trial light from high intensity LEDs which looks to perform very well, and will last much longer than the bulbs. We fit a pre-fab'ed light assembly into the existing wall or ceiling fitting, making the swap quite easy.
These units work down to quite low battery voltage, so will give useful light even on a fairly discharged battery (although not good for the battery to completely empty it of course!)
If you are going to any of the backcountry huts let us know and we may ask if you aer able to do the swap.
