Pinnacles Hut Climbing Meet - 5 - 7 March 2027

Pinnacles Hut Meet 2027!

A social climbing meet for rock climbers at Pinnacles Hut in Mt Somers. This popular spot is often booked out, hence booking well in advance to secure the hut for Friday and Saturday night. This is a “meet” where climbers can attend the meet either with a climbing buddy or alone and climb independently during the weekend days with shared kai on Saturday evening. 

Minimum number of persons to run the meet is 10.  To book the hut, payment of $100 will be required at the time of booking the hut (which is the approximate price to book the whole hut based on 13 persons). If more participants than this sign up, refunds will be issued based on the actual number of attendees. If there are less sign-ups there will be a small adjustment to the price. Once your form has been accepted via the CMC page, you will be sent a link to a form with details for payment.

Itinerary:

Leave Christchurch on Friday afternoon, carpool to the Mt Somers carpark, and walk to Pinnacles Hut. Climb Saturday, with a shared meal at the hut on Saturday evening. Climb Sunday morning and walk out Sunday afternoon. 

Previous experience required:

Confident sport climbing is a MUST. The area is best known for trad climbing (and the rock quality on these routes is better). It is not a prerequisite that you can trad climb however you will have a more enjoyable time if you can! 

Gear required:
Rope (1 between 2), harnesses, climbing shoes, helmets, trad rack (shared) gear to stay at lodge + personal items.

Plan B: Book the hut for 16-18 April 2027 which is the other full weekend the hut is available.
